Biography

Dr. Dutton is an Associate Professor at the University of Florida in the Department of Geological Sciences.  Her main research focus is to establish the behavior of sea level and polar ice sheets during past warm periods to better inform us about future sea-level rise.  Dr. Dutton is active in communicating her research to the public and has been extensively quoted and featured in popular media, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Atlantic, on CNN and NPR.   Dr. Dutton serves on multiple editorial boards, steering committees, and working groups related to past climate and sea level change.  She is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, was recently awarded a Fulbright Scholar award and is a Faculty Fellow of the Thompson Earth Systems Institute. In 2017, Dr. Dutton was named one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s “25 People Shaping the Future in Tech, Science, Medicine, Activism and More.”
