Panel Discussion: Sea Level Rise Challenges and Planning
While many sectors are awakening to the challenge of planning for sea level rise, the national defense sector has demonstrated refreshing leadership with scenario planning without getting bogged down in climate change politics. Annapolis, Maryland and the 7 major municipalities that make up the Hampton Roads, Virginia region are also demonstrating leadership in sea level rise planning and moving forward briskly. The City of Annapolis and the Hampton Roads region actively engage with their naval installation neighbors and share “whole of government” practices. This panel discusses experiences and key lessons. We raise the unique challenges of organizing, budgeting and teeing-up decisions across jurisdictional and budget boundaries.
